We are proud to announce that we have won the Eco Logic Youth Awards 2013

 

ethekwini _schools_awardThe Birches received the Ethekwini Schools Award for ‘An Outstanding Contribution in the implementation of a Cleaner Environment’ from the Keep Durban Beautiful Association in 2008

 

 

Eco School AwardsThe school has flown the green Eco-school flag for more than ten years – since 2009 it has flown the International Eco-school Flag

 

The Birches has been on TV three times :

  1. The children appeared on SABC 1 on Human Rights Day on behalf of Imagine Durban illustrating that “It is the right of every child to Education but it is the Responsibility of every child to care for the environment in which they learn”
  2. On 27th May the school appeared on KTV illustrating environmental projects including recycling
  3. In August the children appeared again on KTV, this time on behalf of Uniross encouraging other schools to recycle batteries

 

On 10th September 2009 the school was awarded The MAIL & GUARDIAN Greening the Future award.

  

 Mayors AwardIn December 2009 The Birches was awarded the Mayor’s Award for Biodiversity

 

 

In July 2012 the school won joint first prize in The Saville Foundation Entrepeneurship Competition

 

In May 2013 the school was awarded second place in The Saville Foundation Entrepeneurship Competition 2013

 

School Enterprise Challenge 2012On 14th March 2013 The Birches heard they had won the 2012 School Enterprise - South African Country Award.  This Global Competition was ‘In recognition of the exceptional school enterprise established at this school and its contribution to developing business and practical skills amongst people in South Africa’
